Tiffany & Co. Chrysanthemum Punch Bowl and Ladle

About the Item

This exceptional silver punchbowl and ladle from Tiffany & Co. are crafted in the iconic Chrysanthemum pattern, one of the most beloved sterling patterns ever made. Because of its intricacy, the pattern was among the most expensive motifs produced by the firm, and thus large pieces such as this punchbowl—which weighs an astonishing 232 troy ounces—are highly rare finds. Punchbowls were typically only made by Tiffany on a commission basis, due to the complex and expensive nature of their production—making this monumental and exquisitely detailed example a truly exceptional masterpiece. Beautifully intricate chrysanthemum flowers line the base and rim of the elegant bowl, with additional blooms emblazoned on the body. Together, the bowl and its delicate parcel gilt ladle are striking examples of superior craftsmanship from Tiffany & Co., as well as a testament to their continued reign as the leading producers of American silver. This coveted Chrysanthemum pattern was patented in 1880 by the renowned Tiffany silversmith Charles T. Grosjean, one of the most influential designers in Tiffany's history. Grosjean’s designs are among the most enduring of the Tiffany patterns and include Chrysanthemum, Lap-over-Edge, and English King. Chrysanthemum, however, found particular favor with Victorian socialites and new brides even though it was one of the most expensive of the Tiffany patterns to produce. Grosjean's talent is evident in this pattern in particular, which exhibits not only rich chasing but also a classic elegance that has endured the test of time. Marked “Tiffany & Co.
