Antique German Silver Horse Centrepiece / Table Ornament

About the Item

A magnificent, fine and impressive antique German silver table ornament / centrepiece modelled in the form of two horses; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This magnificent antique German silver centerpiece has been realistically modelled in the form of a mare on her hind quarters feeding a foal. This large cast model/box is embellished with Fine details reproducing the horses' anatomical features and manes. This impressive sterling silver box retains the original push fit cover/head. The two impressive horse ornaments surmount a circular shaped waisted base. The domed upper plateau of the base is embellished with impressive chased decoration replicating a grass terrain abundant with insects, frogs and butterflies. This plateau is further ornamented with a protruding undulating border, to a plain waisted portion encircled with exceptional cast and applied lizards. The lower portion of the base is encompassed with interlacing scroll designs accented with floral motifs and bearded mask designs, all on a textured background. The surface of this exceptional example of antique silverware retains the original gilding; this has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion to an aesthetically pleasing mellow color. This magnificent horse centrepiece has been crafted in 13 löthige/loth standard silver; this is the equivalent of .812.5 standard (812.5/1000) This exceptional antique silver sugar box is a rare model for such a piece and is highly desirable.
