Antique Russian Import Solid Silver Impressive Centrepiece, circa 1880
About the Item
Antique 19th century Russian import solid silver centrepiece in a form of a palm tree, the base of the tree decorated with various exotic foliage and applied with a figure of an ostrich, the four sided base embossed with flowers, scroll work and beaded boarders, bearing four blank cartooches. The top terminating with palm leaves holding the frosted glass fruit bowl.
Hallmarked Russian Imported solid silver 84 ?? (abbreviated in Cyrillic for 'imported goods', mark used between 1882-1898), further marked 875.M a silver standard commonly used in Russia in the 19th century. The centrepiece is probably originally made in German or Austria.
