A magnificent, fine and impressive antique William IV English sterling silver presentation bowl made by William Bateman II; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This magnificent antique William IV sterling silver decorative bowl has a compressed circular rounded form onto a circular shaped spreading foot. The surface of the body is encircled with exceptional chased scrolling leaf and floral ornamentation, all on a matte background. Either side of this English silver bowl incorporates a large, vacant shaped scroll bordered cartouche. This antique silver bowl is further embellished with two exceptional cast and applied stylized lion mask designs, each incorporating a fruiting vine withdrawing from the back of the animal's mouth and joining the ornamentation to the body. The plain waisted upper portion of the bowl is encircled with an undulating flared cast and applied border to the rim, accented with a gilded textured finish. The exceptional cast sterling silver shaped circular foot is comprised of large scrolling leaf designs. This antique centerpiece/presentation bowl has a gilded interior. This bowl, crafted by the renowned silversmith William Bateman II, can be considered to be a magnificent gauge for its size. Such magnificent bowls from this period are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This English silver bowl is a magnificent gauge of silver for its size, magnificent quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The chased and cast decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the magnificent gauge of silver.
