Early 19th Century Spanish Silver Candlesticks Circa 1810

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Spanish cast silver candlesticks in the Adams style; an addition to our continental silverware collection. These fine antique Spanish cast silver candlesticks have an oval tapering form in the Adams style. The urn shaped capitals of these antique silver candlesticks are encircled with concave fluted decoration and have fixed sconces. The capitals are supported by tapering columns embellished with vertical ribbed decoration. The knops and domed oval foot of each candlestick are further embellished with stepped decoration. Antique Spanish cast candlesticks, of such high quality, are rare to the market. Condition These antique silver candlesticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition. There are some surface blemishes as to be expected, in keeping with age. The Spanish hallmarks struck to the surface of each base have wear in keeping with age, but remain legible. The plain cylindrical capitals of these exceptional examples of antique 1890s silverware are fitted with fixed square sconces ornamented with a simplistic lobed design to the rim. The capitals are supported by impressive Aztec totem pole style columns, embellished with chased decorated offset cuboid segments. The lower portion of the cuboid column is plain and unembellished.     This pair of elegant 19th century Italian Empire period (1811-1817) silver chiseled candlesticks show a simple but elegant design and shape. The conical structure embellished with festoon and garlands rests on an unfilled round base decorated with acanthus leaves offset olive-shaped grommets adorned with a frieze of palmettes and a flat, plate-shaped drip edge.
