SUPERB WMF ART NOUVEAU FLOWER DISH / JARDINIÉRE (SILVER-PLATED) with ORIGINAL GLASS LINER The flower dish stands on four feet: The silver-plated part is decorated with most elegant Art Nouveau ornaments of abstract type (parts of bowl are worked in reticulated manner) / additionally, front as well as back side of bowl have figural patterns, depicting a couple in Greek antique style - semi-nude man and woman embracing each other. - Finally, there is SUPERB ORIGINAL GLASS LINER existing: The bottom has mat finish, the edged areas are excellently cut & carved with abstract patterns. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The WMF FLOWER DISH / JARDINIÉRE is hallmarked as following: - WMF early mark consisting of an ostrich enclosed in a rotated square which is enclosed in a square frame / introduced by WMF as of following year: 1880 / this mark used until 1925. - The WMF-firm's choice of an ostrich as a trade-mark was determined by the owners' - the Straub family - heraldic animal, which had been an ostrich / the German word for it is STRAUSS. - OX = stands for OXIDIZED - B = stands for BRITANNIA-METAL, a tin and antimony alloy - I / 0 = stands for NORMAL THICKNESS OF SILVER-PLATING , i.e. one gram of deposited silver spread over an area of one square decimetre _____________________________________________________________________________________________ MEASURES: HEIGHT (glass liner included): 24 cm (circa 9.6 inches) HEIGHT (glass liner excluded): 17 cm (circa 6.8 inches) LENGTH: 36 cm (circa 14.4 inches) _____________________________________________________________________________________________ MADE IN GERMANY / GEISLINGEN, circa 1900
