Art Deco Ceramic Figurine Dante Alighieri by Wiener Keramik Werkstätte
About the Item
Art Deco Ceramic figurine depicting the writer Dante Alighieri made by the Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstätte. Origin Austria, Circa 1910 -1920. The figurine depicting Dante Alighieri holding a book. Dante Alighieri is represented with a beautiful blue robe and his famous headdress. The sculpture is perfect in all aspects without the slightest chipping or breakage or restored piece. Signed under the base with the famous Viennese brand of Wiener Keramik Werkstatte, founded in 1906 by one of the greatest artists and ceramicists on the European scene of the early 20th century, Michael Powolny Just a year later, in 1907 it was taken over by the Wiener Werkstatte, founded in 1903 by the architect Josef Hoffmann and the painter Koloman Moser. The piece is marked on the underside with the seal of Wiener Werkstaette and marked Austria, as well as the model number 1033 - 3.
The beauty of this work is beyond doubt. Many sculptors have proposed the figure of the most famous Italian poet and I would say in the world Dante Alighieri, with busts, entire statues in bronze, marble, terracotta or as in this beautiful and valuable ceramic sculpture. The face is fabulously modelled, the hand holding the book has its fingers wide apart. The blue color of the tunic and the rich glaze give the sculpture a rare elegance. A very important and rare piece in perfect condition.
