  • Bowl by Per Hammarström, Signed, Sweden, 1980s / 1990s
    By Per Hammarström

Bowl by Per Hammarström, Sweden, 1980s / 1990s. Stoneware. Signed “Per.H” Measurements: H: 17.9 cm / 7" W: 25.3 cm / 10". Per Hammarström is one of Sweden’s most highly regarded ceramicists. Per’s work doesn’t conform to the Swedish style of simplicity; instead he loves colour and texture, and exploring the multi-faceted function of ceramics. Per began his training at the Gustavsbergs Porcelain Studio in 1978, which is sadly no longer in existence. In 1984 he opened his own studio in Strängnäs, and has worked in this manner ever since. Per’s work is characterised by organic forms and his own distinctive glazes, often in bright colours and strong contrasts. His work is unique, each piece starting out as a roughly thrown form, which is worked and transformed into bowls that are characterised by their delicacy and translucency. The organic form is embodied in the textured ceramics of Per. His works are either made from stoneware or porcelain. The inspiration of much of his work is the sea, but he also draws from flora and fauna; and the changing of the seasons. The undulating colours of the sea, sky and land manifest themselves in his delicately crafted and vividly coloured ceramics. Through elaborate dining-ware and ceramic ornaments...

  • Midcentury Stoneware Bowl by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden, 1950s
    By Gunnar Nylund, Rörstrand
    Located in Stockholm, SE
Beautiful stoneware bowl by Gunnar Nylund, in an oval boat shape with an undulating edge. Large size. Purple and blue glaze with nuances of brown. Gunnar Nylund was one of the most influential ceramicists and designers of the Swedish mid-century period. He was Rörstrand’s creative leader from 1931 until 1949 and as such propelled the artistic work at the factory and served as mentor to younger artists, among them Carl-Harry Stålhane and Hertha Bengtsson. Nylund was a dedicated functionalist, who brought ideas of democratizing stoneware and creating beautiful, qualitative and affordable everyday items for the people to Rörstand in the mid-1920s. The factory had at the time lost its former leading market position, but Nylund’s efforts gave it a great reboot. He designed ceramic kitchenware...

Berndt Friberg, Stoneware Bowl with yellow haresfur glaze, Gustavsberg, Sweden 1979 Impressed "Friberg" "G (hand) " Incised "1979" The entire body is covered with a brightly colored yellow glaze, which is then covered with a green glaze that mixes with each other and flows nicely. The glaze flows nicely both inside and out, and the glaze has a fine hairline. The rim has a nice gradation. The shape is that of a bowl with a regular circle rim, falling vertically from the rim and bending at the waist in the shape of a twilled bowl, a standard shape for Friberg's work. The style form is influenced by old Chinese ceramics...
