Carstens Luxus Designer Range Vase Fat Lava, West Germany, circa 1962
About the Item
Carstens produced high quality ceramics of which the 'Luxus' range was the most expensive, high end range. 'Luxus', as indicated by the fabric label from which hung a card tag, 'Atelier', was designed by Gerda Heuckeroth between 1962 and 1964.
This is a large pleasing tapered shaped vase with a top rim shaped like a drip pan for a candlestick decorated in dark and light browns.
Impressed mark to the base.
This style of ceramic from West Germany has become known generically as 'Fat Lava'.
