Copeland Aesthetic Movement Stag Hunting Scene Plate, 1879

About the Item

An unusual antique Copeland Aesthetic Movement cabinet plate decorated with a titled stag hunting scene dated 1879. The large ceramic plate is of round shape with a raised rim with a shaped edge. The body of the plate printed and hand tinted with a central scene of a stag being chased by a dog and trapped by its antlers caught up in a tree. The plate is titled around the edge and reads ‘Ya STAG CAUGHT BY Ya HORNS’ with a colored floral stem to the opposite rim of the plate. The plate has an impressed COPELAND mark to the base along with an impressed date mark and a registration mark dating the plate to March 1879. From a private collection of interesting cabinet plates In good condition. Copeland with impressed marks to the base.
