Early Mason's Ironstone Dinner Plate Flying Bird Ptn Retailers mark, circa 1825

About the Item

This is a late Georgian Ironstone dinner plate in the distinctive flying bird pattern, made by Mason's of Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England, during the early 19th century, circa 1825. This is a large well potted dinner plate with a notched rim. The chinoiserie pattern is vividly hand painted over a printed pattern with typical bold enamels of cobalt blue, burnt orange, green, yellow and red all in various shades with additional hand gilding. This pattern is illustrated on page 121 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns", published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. There are three marks to the base; 1) The early recorded Straight line impressed "MASON'S PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA" 2) Early blue printed crown & banner with MASONS above. 3) Retailers mark of GW printed in blue.- we are not sure who this is Notes: This pattern is normally seen on later 19th century pieces, particularly in the period when Masons was owned by Ashworth's so It is nice to find an early piece like this one.
