Female oriental figurine wearing costume: Odalisque (Called 'Aida') Designed by Josef Lorenzl (1892-1950) / one of most important designers having been active for Goldscheider manufactory in period of 1920-1940 / Designed circa 1923-1924. Made circa 1925-1930 Model number 5281 / 867 / 7 Hallmarked: Goldscheider Wien (= VIENNA) stamp mark existing. MADE IN AUSTRIA & HAND-DECORATED Painter's sign visible, too Subject: Stunning lady figurine of Arab style / Odalisque called 'Aida', too - based on the well-known Opera by Verdi, telling the bad fortune of the Ethiopian Princess Aida having become a slave: An odalisque was a female slave in an Ottoman noble household. She was an assistant or apprentice to the concubines and wives. Most odalisques were part of the Imperial Harem ( = the household of the Turkish Sultan). This figurine is of highest quality due to the excellent painting of the lady's garments as well as of the figurine's Fine appearance: The lady's cape (which is laid over her head falling down over her shoulders) is excellently painted with stylized leaves' & flowers' patterns. The odalisque is wearing a pair of red Arab trousers / the upper part of her body is covered with a bikini-like garment. The lady's features are very handsome: She has a pretty nose, red cheeks and excellently shaped lips. Aida is looking down towards earth. The figurine is based on greyish-cream white ovoid and tiered socle.
