A limited edition cup and saucer by the surrealist artist Jean Cocteau (1883-1963). Signed on cup, and numbered 43/50 on base of saucer. Titled "La Dame Etonnee" ("Woman Surprised"), this is the only cup and saucer Cocteau created. It is an original edition, executed at the Atelier Madeline-Jolly.

A rare, extraordinary example of Cocteau's ceramic work and a remarkable illustration of mid-century surrealism in the decorative arts. A collector's piece.
