Large Goldscheider Vienna Art Déco Figurine, Water Carrier, Lorenzl, ca. 1925

About the Item

Very large and rare Goldscheider ceramic figurine of the 1920's: Striding graceful young lady in oriental clothing, balancing an amphora on her head, the delicate bustier, essentially consisting of two decorated cups and held together by ribbons and chains, a hip ornament loosely placed around the waist, which holds the skirt around the legs together, hair covered by a floor-length cloth decorated with an elaborate, stylized floral pattern, right hand on hip, left hand supporting the amphora on her head. On a black, stepped rectangular base, the artist's signature 'Lorenzl' on the back. Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), one of the most important designers who worked for the Goldscheider manufactory in the period of 1920-1940.
