Mason's Ironstone Large Platter Colored Wall Pattern Irish Retailers Mk, Ca 1840

About

This is a mid-19th century Mason's ironstone large platter in the documented colored wall pattern, made in the mid-19th century, circa 1840. This large meat platter is decorated in a very bold chinoiserie pattern called the colored Wall pattern as documented and illustrated on page 94 of A Guide to Mason's patent Ironstone Patterns,” published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The pattern is very bold and distinctive showing a zig zag coloured wall with a flowering tree and pagoda above a rock formation. The border is also very striking and the whole plate has been hand enamelled over a printed outline with additional hand gilded highlights. There are also three small floral sprig painters marks to the rear as per the chinese style. The base carries a Mason's printed crown mark in puce together with an Irish retailers mark stating: HIGGINGBOTHAM & SON SACKVILLE STREET DUBLIN. The pattern number "3102" is also hand-painted in red below the mark. This is a heavy and substantial platter weighing nearly 2.5 Kg unpacked.
