About

A glazed earthenware vase by the modernist French ceramic artist Gilbert Valentin (1928-2001) with a crescent moon design. A master of glazes, Valentin uses a striking canary yellow glaze against a gritty black ground to combine a strong, abstract design with an elegant form. Clearly marked "G. Valentin Les Archanges Vallauris" with the winged Les Archanges pottery logo.

For more information on Valentin's work see French Pottery of the 1950s by Pierre Staudenmeyer, pp 302-7. Valentin's "Les Archanges" pottery showroom in Vallauris. (We are offering another ceramic work by Valentin on 1stdibs, see last image.).
