Mid-Century Modern large relief tile handmade fat lava Helmut Schaffenacker ceramic wall plaque sail boats colorful abstract West German art.
Wonderful and colorful midcentury matte glazed tile from the 1950s by renowned Modernist German sculptor, potter and artist, Helmut Friedrich Schaffenacker (1921-2010). He was, in fact, known as the master of plaques. This large, handmade, fat lava wall plaque features several abstract sailboats in deep navy blue, bold red and antique white and beige. The tile shape is intentionally irregular in brutalist form. Ready to hang with fitted hanger on reverse.
Condition: Good vintage condition. Minor touch up on the edge
