Parvillèe Pair of Carps & Heron, circa 1870

About

Louis Léon Parvillée was born in 1830 in Paris. A multifaceted artist, he is at the same time a defender of polychrome architecture, a researcher and an art historian. In the pair of vases, the artist was inspired from Japan by the motifs of the carp and the heron evoking the animal prints and borrows from the Chinese ceramics the technique of glaze sancai or "three colors". These colored glazes are placed directly on the terracotta or on the biscuit porcelain and create a random decor during the cooking.
