Wilhelm Kage, "Farsta" Blue Bowl, The Gustavsberg Manufactory, Sweden 1958

About the Item

Wilhelm Kage, "Farsta" blue bowl, The Gustavsberg Manufactory, Sweden 1958 Impressed "Farsta" four times to feet, "Gustavsberg G (hand) Studio" Incised "Ö", "KÅGE This is a footed bowl by Wilhelm Kåge, a master potter at the Gustavsberg Porcelain manufactory in Sweden. A brick-reddish-brown glaze is applied all over the ochre-colored base of the vessel, and a dotted pattern is engraved on the base of the vessel. The glaze is then covered with a starch-blue glaze, which turns transparent blue during firing. The starch-blue glaze drips down the underside of the vessel, creating the illusion that the flow of water has been stopped. The shape and glaze color are similar to those of celadon water basins from the Song dynasty of China, and it is thought that Koge himself produced this piece with Song dynasty Chinese ceramics in mind. There is a small chip on the corner of the rim that may have been made during production. Other repairs were checked by experts using UV light and visual inspection to see if there were any repairs.
