Set of 16 George Thompson Designed Steuben Champagne/Coupe/Tall Sherbet Glasses

About the Item

A Set of 16 George Thompson Designed Hand Blown Steuben Champagne/Coupe/Tall Sherbet Pattern #7877, Mid 20th c Glasses. Steuben glass is elegantly contemporary and flawlessly executed. Steuben is an offshoot of Corning Glass Works in Corning, N.Y. Steuben uses a revolutionary formula that was devised for optical glass and it produces the world's purest lead crystal. These unfussy, classically elegant glasses make their point as vessels without unnecessary embellishment. They have the baluster stem with the hallmark suspended bubble as designed by George Thompson in 1940. In recent years the resurgence of coupe cocktail glasses is due to the craft cocktail movement. This clearly is an effort to revisit the glamorous cocktails that were served at the Stork Club. Coupe glassware is appearing frequently at cocktail bars as the go to glass for crafted cocktails. All the glasses are signed with the acid etched "Steuben". Trent Antiques has been a respected name in antiques for over 30 years with a large collection of period furniture, art, books, jewelry and decorative accessories.
