Six Early Mason's Ironstone Dinner Plates Harlequin Set, English Circa 1815

About the Item

This is a harlequin set of Six Mason's Ironstone Dinner Plates, all dating to the earliest period between 1813 and 1820. All the plates are circular with a notched rim and of the same nominal size of about 9.5 inches diameter, but have different patterns and base marks as follows; Top row left: Japan Basket Pattern - Bold colouring with some hand gilded detail. Straight Line Impressed- Mason's patent Ironstone China plus wide spaced Mason's, Crown and banner. Condition: NO Damage, surface manufacturing firing fault to base from kiln ~ 3 inches long Top row middle: Rose and Apple or Old School House pattern - A beautiful very bold and gilded pattern, rare on plates; Straight line impressed- Mason's Patent Ironstone China Condition: NO Damage, Some pattern wear Top row right: Fence Japan pattern, another pattern not often seen on plates Straight line impressed: Masons Patent Ironstone China Condition: No Damage, some surface wear Bottom row left: Golden peacock pattern - a beautiful heavily gilded pattern; Straight line impressed- Masons Patent Ironstone China mark Condition: NO Damage, Very good. Bottom row middle: India Grasshopper pattern Straight line Masons Patent Ironstone China impressed plus Masons printed mark. NO Damage, rim slightly out of shape - from the original manufacturing process Bottom row mid: Chinese Scroll pattern; a rarer oriental figure design with gilding. Large printed crown and banner- color washed in green Condition: NO Damage - some surface wear. All the plates have typical bold hand enamelling, some over a printed outline and some with gilding. All patterns are fully documented and listed in "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The plates are all circular and nominally the same diameter though the exact shape varies slightly as one would expect with plates made at different times, but all about 200 years old.
