AVEM LARGE Murano Zanfirico Bizantino / Tutti Frutti Red Glass Vase
About the Item
Here is an exquisite, large and very heavy (2.8kg unpacked) 1950/60's Venetian glass vase, made on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy. This piece was made by AVEM (Arte Vetraria Muranese), part of their "Bizantino" series (commonly referred to by collectors as "tutti-frutti") which was introduced in 1953. Similar items are shown in the book "AVEM, Arte Vetraria Muranese, Artistic Production 1932 - 1972" by Marc Heiremans (pages 106-109, 209, 218 and 222). Decorated with silver leaf, white zanfirico lattice filigree, twisted ribbon canes, and copper aventurine. All of this is surrounded with an inner casing of red glass, and an outer clear glass casing. At nearly 8 inches tall, this piece is much larger than most of the examples I've had before in this range.
Size
Measures approx 7.75 inches tall by 5 inches in diameter at widest point.
Condition
Excellent condition, just one small nibble to one side near the base, shown in the final picture.
