About the Item
Echoes of Light II, 2022 (Glass, C. 16.5 in. h x 16.5 in. w x 5.5 in. d, Object No.: 4121)
Tim Rawlinson’s fascination with the way light passes through glass informs his work. He exploits transparency, as its essential and primary quality, manipulating and distorting both color and form in order to challenge his viewer’s perceptions.
Light excites glass. It transfers energy that is absorbed by the material and projected out onto its surroundings. This transforms their environment, to create an architecture of light. Light occupies the space, and the viewer is challenged to have an awareness and observation of that experience. The direct engagement with the work can make you contemplate the nature of light itself.?
Through casting blown glass components, Tim aims to capture the quality of when ink falls or merges with water and how the color spreads and flows on the liquid. This can be achieved when the glass is molten, but the flow is suspended as the glass cools. This achieves static movement, a moment frozen in time. Ultimately the interior becomes a painting, a composition in layers of light and refraction.
One of humanity’s tendencies is to attempt to give order and form where there is none. For instance how randomly arranged stars are organized into constellations, or how we perceive shapes in the constantly shifting cloud formations. This desire to give form to chaos is an expression of our imagination. Tim’s work invites the viewer to look beyond what is apparent and to search for the unknown.
Tim Rawlinson was born in 1985 and lives and works in London.

- White Murano Glass Centerpiece, VELENI by L+W 2022 - Limited Edition collectibleBy Lanzavecchia + WaiLocated in Milan, ITVELENI’s communicative and elegant Centerpiece CE-20w is a vanitas leading to reflection. This blown glass disc filled with microfibers catches the eye, making it wander among volumes, transparencies and roundness. However, why not see it as a sculptural plate that guides you through an experience of consciousness? The poisons almost seem to merge with the food itself highlighting the bond between the waste we produce and what we eat. VELENI is a collection of 12 glass sculptures designed by Lanzavecchia + Wai and crafted by the expert hands of Murano’s glass blowers, a contemporary vanitas shedding awareness on the impact humankind has had on Earth. A series of objects whose beauty can confound, the collection’s interior is enriched by aesthetically pleasing yet extremely dangerous pollutants. Revealed by the transparency of glass whilst isolated by airtight chambers, the appeal of the colors clashes with what they actually represent, making us wonder: how and why is our waste so close to what we consume? Playing with proportions and volumes, the collection allows us to visualize the pollutants generated by our lives, which contaminate our waters and end up on our tables.
