Large Émile Gallé Art Nouveau Vase with Water-Lily Pond Decor, France, 1904-06
About the Item
Vase with a three-pass floor plan, widening upwards, pressed in on the upper edge between the segmental arches, ground outer edges on top and at the base. Colorless glass with blue colored powder melts in the area of the base and on the upper edge, on the outside overlaid with yellow-orange, high-etched decor with water-lily pond landscape in various stages, etched matt on the inside and the background on the outside, polished relief.
Cameo signature 'Gallé' with a star near the ground on a lily pad.
Hand-made Cameo glass:
Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
