Mid-Georgian Ale Drinking Glass Wrythen Bowl & Stem Handblown, circa 1760
About the Item
This is a good English, Georgian drinking glass, sometimes called a "Dwarf Ale" glass, which we date to the mid-18th century.
This glass is individually handblown, from lead glass which is characterised by its soft grey colour, its fairly heavy weight and the imperfections that occur naturally within the glass as part of the hand-blowing process.
The glass has a very good drawn trumpet bowl which has been wrythen (twist fluted) along its length through to the base of the stem. The wide foot is thick and folded at its edge, with a snapped-off pontil to the underside.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Small air bubbles to the foot. Please note that ALL 18thC hand blown glass has possible striations, inclusions, grit and air bubbles, which is normal to the hand blowing process and give these glasses their unique character.
