About the Item

Gorgeous Art Nouveau vase Made by Loetz (Lötz) Widow Klostermuehle Bohemia, circa 1899-1900 Decor: Blue type of Phaenomen Genre (PG) 7766 Form: 85 / 3693 (for E. Bakalowits & Sons / Vienna) Stunning glass item with numerous iridescent silver-blue swirls and spots laid on bronze-coloured ground. It is a stalky vase having a cylindric hollow body (= from which the long stalk is growing out). The vase's mouth is of scalloped type - it is square-shaped. The vase is based on foot which is slightly hollow at middle area of reverse side. - Please note that this vase's very special form had been made on behalf of firm E. Bakalowits & Sons (= form number 85/3693) / the design is still preserved. Bibliography: published by H. Ricke / Tomas Vlcek / Alena Adlerova / Ernst Ploil, Lötz (Böhmisches Glas 1880-1940), vol 2 (Katalog der Musterschnitte / = Catalogue of Samples of Designs), Munich 1989, page 273, number 85 / 3693 (= please look at the concerning picture attached here) made circa 1899-1900 Bakalowits Firm was founded in 1845 by Elias Bakalowits. The company became very successful in providing crystal as well as lighting for palaces and other notable buildings. The original store was located on the Hoher Markt. His grandson Ludwig Bakalowits received an imperial warrant and became a purveyor to the imperial court in Vienna / he loved Fine Arts and had intensive contact to well-known artists such as Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, Otto Prutscher, Otto Wagner, Joseph Maria Olbrich etc. who made many designs on behalf of Bakalowits which has been in business for over 165 years. Size: height: 21.5 cm (= 8.46 inches) length of vase's mouth: 7.5 cm (= 2.95 inches) total diameter: 9.3 cm (= 3.66 inches) This Loetz vase is kept by stunning silver holder which seems to have been manufactured especially for this glass item: Silver mounting is perfectly matching this vase's dimensions, excellently shaped in Art Nouveau style (= stylized flowers and leaves), having two handles. The silver holder is marked by Austrian Official die stamp, the so-said Diana's Head mark of 1872-1922, as well as by a master's mark which is a bit rubbed: Most probably it is the mark of Frank Brothers, having been active in Vienna during period 1890-1912.
