WMF Ikora -famous 'Flame' Dexel Egg Glass Vase c1937 -German

About the Item

WMF Ikora Egg shaped glass vase -with a turned in top. This pattern was called the 'Dexel Egg' after it's designer Walter Dexel and it originally came in two sizes - this example is the larger. It was made in a variety of colours but this colourway is considered the most impressive - The vase is cleverly created using two clear layers of glass -suspended between is a layer of speckled coloured glass and small bubbles, generated by chemicals inserted at the time of making. As can be seen in the photos when sunlight hits the vase it almost looks like there are flames inside the vase (there aren't - it is quite safe) a fabulous optical effect -On the base is enamelled 7432 which we suspect is an original shape code. It is well documented and similar smaller examples can be found in the WMF Ikora glass book page 78. WMF, based in Germany were originally famed in the early 1900s for their metalwork but became better known for their glassware in the late 1920 and 1930s

Emile Galle-The Bretton Fishing Fleet-Exceptionally Rare Cameo glass signed vase
By Émile Gallé
Located in Worcester Park, GB
One of the rarest Galle images the Bretton Fishing Fleet cameo vase -depicting a flotilla of manned fishing boats of many sizes and designs and incredible detail many with sails up and many with just rigging. Signed, intaglio cut, Provost MkVI c1925-36 -see 4th image and chart at end for dating. This an absolute tour-de-force of the cameo technique -partly done by acid cut back, but most of the fine outline work (rigging etc) is done by fine wheel cutting. Very few other examples of this vase are known and they mostly reside in museums. Galle vases featuring sailing ship vases...
