Pair English Mahogany Serpentine Inlaid Cutlery Boxes on Bracket Feet 18th C
About the Item
This Elegant pair of English George III mahogany Serpentine inlaid cutlery Boxes on Ogee Bracket Feet with the original Cutlery fitted interiors where made in the late 18th century. The neoclassical Serpentine knife boxes have a canted lid and are solid mahogany framed with an ebony string inlay and a Satinwood band around the base just above the Ebonized ogee bracket ebonized feet. The interiors of Cutlery Boxes retain there original pierced, fret-carved, and slotted fitted liners with barber pole inlays. The interior of the mahogany canted lid has a compass rose star motif with contrasting satinwood and ebony inlays. Each Classical Knife Box retain there original brass hardware consisting of two double shield hinges and crests escutcheons. The craftsmanship and select woods make these Cutlery Boxes exceptional works of form and function.
