Antique Queen Anne Style Britannia Standard Silver Teapot
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English Britannia standard silver teapot in the Queen Anne style; an addition to our silver teaware collection.
This exceptional antique George V Britannia silver* teapot has a plain panelled octagonal form onto a collet style foot, all in the Queen Anne style.
The surface of the silver teapot is plain and embellished with the engraved mongram initial 'T' to one side.
This antique teapot retains the original hinged hallmarked domed panelled cover surmounted with an impressive cast silver urn style finial.
This fine Queen Anne style Britannia silver teapot is fitted with a shaped carved painted wood handle with a carved scroll style thumbpiece.
The teapot has a cast silver panelled swan necked spout, ornamented with a shaped plateau to the lip.
This impressive example of antique silver teaware bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb, London' to the underside.
* Britannia Silver - The Britannia silver standard of 958 (95.84% of fine silver), denoted by the icon of the seated Britannia holding an oval shield, was introduced by William III in 1697. This was to indicate the slightly higher standard of silver from sterling silver standard of 925 (92.5% of fine silver).

This antique Britannia silver teapot is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. This fine example of antique teaware has been professionally polished. The interior of the teapot has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. Full hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks struck to the rim of the cover are very clear.

This antique Queen Anne Britannia standard silver* porringer has a circular rounded form. The lower portion of this 18th century silver porringer bowl is embellished with chased alternating fluted decoration accented with engraved foliate motifs. The upper portion is encircled with a chased rope twist decorated girdle flanked with engraved foliate and scalloped motifs. The decoration to the anterior surface incorporates a cartouche bordered with scale motif diaper pattern and large scrolling designs, all surmounted with a figural cherub mask between a pair of wings. The cartouche displays a contemporary engraved coat of arms with scrolling leaf mantling and helm, all below a crest of an escallop.
