About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver gilt suit of dishes made by William Comyns & Sons Ltd; an addition to our silverware collection These exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver gilt dishes have an oval flared form onto four bracket style feet. The suite consists of one large dish, with two slightly smaller identical antique silver dishes. The surface of each antique silver dish is embellished to one side with an impressive bright cut engraved coat of arms displaying shield shaped escutcheon of a pile reversed displaying a wheel, below two wolve's heads erased, all surmounted with an impressive mantling. The opposing side of each dish is embellished with a bright cut engraved crest of a demi-wolf collared with a tower, above the motto 'Præcipue præcipere' - He relies on the command. The upper portion of each dish is ornamented with an impressive cast and applied foliate festoon decorated border. The lower rims are encircled with an applied undulating leaf decorated border. Each exceptional dish is supported by four cast and applied bracket style feet ornamented with trifurcating scrolling leaf decorated sockets. These exceptional examples of antique silverware retain the original gilding. These exceptional sterling silver dishes, crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Charles & Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd, are the finest of their type you could hope to acquire. Condition This sterling silver gilt suite of dishes is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each dish are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
