Italic Lace Round Placemat in Black by Galante & Lancman for Driade

About the Item

The city of Siena in 1440 birthed the original lace items that provided the inspiration for a range of table accessories. Back then they were made with a crochet hook, now they are made using photogravure. They give a modern twist to an ancient version a memory and style soundly based in the traditions of this part of Italy. This gave rise to “Italic Lace”, a collection of refined placemats and coasters, designed for those who love to dress the table with elegance that is never casual. The finishes include shiny brass, glossy black, red and classical white. In 2003, designer, Maurizio Galante, teamed up with trend forecast analyst and designer Tal Lancman, to form Interware. Their crossover vision transverses the different design disciplines, from fashion to furniture, interiors, architecture and gardening. As the duo moves freely between disciplines, they revisit domains equipped with new understandings, insights and observations. The process results in a multi-faceted concept, with a subtle balance between the pragmatic and the irrational. Interware’s philosophy proposes a series of objects/companions; expressive, amusing, and thought-provoking designs, bestowing owners with their friendly presence. The team works on all elements of design and production, from trend research, to marketing, including definition of brand image, strategy, communication, packaging, and presentation. Clients and collaborations include American Express, Baccarat, Boffi Italia, Baleri, Chopard, Driade, Elipson, Felissimo Japan, Itochu Japan, Nokia, Nymphenburg, Pommery, Tai Ping and Veronese. Maurizio Galante participates in numerous exhibitions and his creations were presented in the permanent collections of many of the world’s most renowned museums. Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman have curated several design exhibitions. They have presented their work and installations at Fondation Cartier Pour L’Art Contemporain in Paris, MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) in New York, Musée Des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, Musée D'art Et D'industrie in Saint Etienne, Triennale in Milano, Mudam Musée D’art Moderne Grand Duc Jean in Luxembourg, Palazzo Pitti in Firenze and Kci the Kyoto costume institute in Kyoto.
