This galleried tray is skillfully painted with figures of huntsmen, horses and hounds, the field in full cry. The signature of J.N.Sartorius appears to the lower part of the field, 59cm wide, 40cm high (15 1/2in wide, 15 1/2in high). It is unusual to find painting of this quality appearing on a tray or any other furniture but other recorded pieces decorated by Sartorius suggest that it may have been a practice that he did become involved in from time to time.
