The signature of J.N.Sartorius appears to the lower part of the field, 59cm wide, 40cm high (15 1/2in wide, 15 1/2in high). It is unusual to find painting of this quality appearing on a tray or any other furniture but other recorded pieces decorated by Sartorius suggest that it may have been a practice that he did become involved in from time to time.
