White Magnolia Wood and Brass Small Serving Tray by Alabama Sawyer

$275

About

With the White Magnolia Wood and Brass Small Serving Tray, "breakfast in bed" never gets old as an expression of love for mothers, fathers, friends and lovers alike. We made this wood serving tray for lazy Sundays spent reading the paper with coffee and scones, but you are welcome to use it to pass drinks at a party, give it a permanent spot on a coffee table, ottoman, luxury barware or another job we didn’t think of yet. Solid magnolia is given a white finish and joined with brass splines into an obsessively well-crafted object. Due to the unique nature of each piece of wood, your tray will show varied coloring and grain. We use a hand-applied, all natural finish to enhance and protect the unique, urban timber grains, highlighting variation and one-of-a-kind nature. Remove food debris or moisture in a timely manner. Use a moist rag with water to clean. Solvents and chemicals will degrade the finish.

About the Maker

Alabama Sawyer

At Alabama Sawyer, we design modern, environmentally sustainable products from fallen trees in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Since we began in 2014, we have diverted hundreds of logs from the landfill by transforming them into award-winning furniture and products for homes and businesses. Instead of letting trees waste in a landfill, we gather them from municipalities, businesses and homeowners to give them a second life. Urban wood has character. Urban wood has knots, burls and insect holes. It’s not "perfect" — it’s unique, one-of-kind and stunningly beautiful. The constraints and adaptations of growing in the urban forest creates character. We handle each log individually with an eye for the best cut. Then we mill it to show off its inner beauty. Our wood is better for the environment. Urban forests give us cleaner air and cooler temperatures. A living tree provides great value to the community — so can a repurposed one. Historically, felled city trees are taken to the landfill to decompose. Every year, Americans bury 4 billion board feet of usable hardwood trees in our city landfills. Using urban wood keeps them from releasing carbon back into the atmosphere where it contributes to climate change. Using urban wood in long-lasting furniture doesn't matter unless the design is right. Our furniture won Garden and Gun's overall Made in the South award in 2017. Our products are specified by top designers and architects nationwide and sold in cutting-edge design collections.
