Georgian Mason's Ironstone Jug or Pitcher Jardiniere Gilded Pattern, circa 1815

About

This is a good, very early Mason's Ironstone Hydra jug or pitcher in the gilded Jardiniere pattern, dating to the late George 111rd period, circa 1813-1815. The jug has an octagonal hydra shape with a notched snake handle and is hand decorated over a printed outline in the distinctive Jardiniere pattern, which is one of Mason's chinoiserie patterns, using bold enamels of cobalt blue, green and burnt orange in various shades. This pattern is a well known Mason's pattern and is illustrated on Page 146 of "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-circa 1848" as published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. This jug is clearly marked to the base with probably the earliest recorded Mason's impressed mark, which states Patent Ironstone China in a circle, dating this piece to the late George 111rd period, circa 1813-1815.
