  • Pair of Large Hand Painted Ceramic Square Platters from Italy
    Located in Dallas, TX
This large pair of Italian square plates are both marked on the back, and the hand painting on the front of each plate depicts perhaps a family’s coat of arms. You can see they are hand painted by the slight variations in image depictions. The colors are gold, yellows, blues, and rusts on a pure white ground. Both plates have hangers on their backs for wall display. These were made in the 20th century using the same techniques since the Renaissance period (Circa 1500). These bright and cheerful Italian wall plates...

  • Heavy Antique French Copper Turbotiere Poacher, Maison Gaillard Paris, c.1850
    Located in Dallas, TX
This heavy tin-lined French copper fish poacher, known as a turbotiere, dates to circa 1850 and was produced by the well-known factory for kitchen equipment, Maison Gaillard Paris. The turbot is a flatfish found in the Atlantic Ocean and this diamond-shaped poacher was designed to accommodate the shape of the fish, hence the name turbotiere. There is a production mark beneath the rolled rim which reads “Gaillard Maison”. A second production mark (“70”) can be seen beneath one of the large looping handles that are affixed by brass mounts with three rivets. The rivets combined with the dovetail seam on the bottom of the poacher attest to the age of production, as these were methods to assemble copper pieces prior to the late-19th century. Copper serving pieces are always in high demand, making our turbotiere poacher from Gaillard Paris a must have for a kitchen decorative...

  • 17th Century French Semis De Fleur De Lys Cast Iron Fireback, Mitre and Crozier
    Located in Dallas, TX
First used about 450-500 years ago to reflect and disperse heat from a fire, firebacks were often cast with themes specific to the homeowner. Sometimes the iron would feature a familial coat of arms, or in the case of this 17th century semis de fleur de lys fireback, decorative motifs would represent the owner. The rectangular fireback has an arched top and a thick multi-layered molding along all edges. In the center is a raised heraldic shield with multiple fleur de lys charges, arranged in a pattern known as semis. A crinkled ribbon transverses the top edge, beneath a papal mitre and crozier topped with a volute leaf, indicating that the original owner was possibly a member of the church, possibly even a bishop. The iron has developed a fascinating chalky gray patina and can still be used functionally in a traditional fireplace...
