Delft Charger with Parrot Made Lambeth England circa 1765

About

An antique Delft charger with parrot is a delightful example of 18th century Lambeth English Delft. The parrot is resting on a branch at one side of a lush garden with oversized flowers. The scene is surrounded by a border of pinecones which is a uniquely English touch. The charger was made at Lambeth in London. Lambeth delft is tin-glazed earthenware made in London during the 17th and 18th centuries. The Lambeth pottery was founded by John de Wilde in 1683. Several archaeological digs on the site uncovered a large manufactory with a total of 17 kilns. Dimensions: 13.5 inches diameter Condition: Excellent Price: $1400 REFERENCES An identical charger can be found In the Reginald and Rachel French collection at Historic Deerfield #91.144. A shard of this pattern is illustrated in Garner, ECC Trans 1937, pl. XIV(f) page 57. Also see "London Delftware", by Frank Britton page 159 plate 155 for a nearly identical dish attributed to The Lambeth High Street factory.
