Flora Danica Fungi Oval Platter by Royal Copenhagen

About the Item

This rare Royal Copenhagen porcelain platter was custom-crafted in the famed Flora Danica Fungi pattern. Flora Danica is known worldwide for its extraordinary illustrations of native flowers of Denmark, but this dish is part of a very special series displaying only species of mushrooms. This particular plate is adorned with illustrations of the shaggy ink cap mushroom, also known as the lawyer's wig or shaggy mane mushroom. The mushroom is shown in various stages of maturity, including the mature stage at which its "ink" drips from its gills. As with all Flora Danica pieces, this fungus’ original Latin name, Agaricus comatus Müll, is written on the back. Accented with a delicately frilled and gilt edge, this incredible platter bears a rich, wonderful history and is the consummate porcelain acquisition. Features the Royal Copenhagen mark and # 375 under the Latin name 20th century Measures: 20 1/2” length.
