8 Gio Ponti for Ginori "Il Circo" Dessert Plates Circus Subjects Art Deco Style

About the Item

This set of 8 Richard Ginori dessert plates are decorated with subjects from the Gio Ponti designs of his "Il Circo" Circus pattern. The Art Deco clean lines are framed with a burgundy red border on a clean white ground-simple, short, sweet and to the point! The set features examples of the circus subjects including the seal, juggler, tight-rope walker and clown. This is a very collectible and sought after pattern and is sure to please, both as decoration and perfect for your favorite dessert. The celebrated Italian designer Gio Ponti (1891 –1979) was an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer and artist. Gio Ponti was appointed artistic director in 1923 for Richard Ginori, founded in 1735, Italy's preeminent manufacturers of porcelain tableware, based in Milan.

Ponti made important alterations to the Le Mie Donne series over the years, having the designs applied to piattelle (wall plates) and large and small jar-shaped and oval vases.
