Antique Italian Doccia Topographical Porcelain Neoclassical Cup and Saucer

About the Item

A very fine antique Italian Doccia Topographical porcelain neoclassical cup & saucer. By Doccia Porcelain Manufactory circa 1820. With painted enamel topographical scenes: the cup depicting ""Rovine di Pompei"" (Pompei Ruins), and the saucer the ""Vadi S. Mia Novella"" (Santa Maria Novella church in Florence, Italy). Decorated in polychrome enamels and gilt borders in the neoclassical taste. Simply a wonderful & rare Doccia porcelain cup & saucer! Reference: See the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection No. C. 18208A-1919 for a comparison (and an extensive note of Doccia topographical porcelains). Date: 1820 - 1830 Overall Condition: They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with no repairs. Condition Details: There is a firing flaw to the cup's rim, a chip to the footrim, and some losses to the saucer's gilding. Otherwise, there are some fine and light surface scratches and other signs of light wear consistent with age. Maker: Doccia Marks: Each marked to its base with an Italian site and a gold star maker's mark. Measurements: Cup: Width: ca. 3 1/4 in. Depth: ca. 2 5/8 in. Height: ca. 2 1/2 in.
