Art Nouveau Group 'Lady Feeding a Parrot', by E. Oehler, Meissen Germany, C 1910

About the Item

Very rare Meissen Art Nouveau porcelain group: Young lady with her hair pinned up, in a white dress with embroidered borders over a flowered blouse, sitting cross-legged on an armchair upholstered with elaborate Art Nouveau fabric and feeding a parrot crouching next to her with pieces of sugar from a bowl she is holding in her left hand on her lap. On a white, flat oval base. Very lifelike and loving representation of the characters and the details. Designer: EMMERICH OEHLER (1881 - 1982) German sculptor; Studied at the State University for Porcelain Manufacture in Dresden, from 1909 he worked in the master workshop of Johannes Schilling and Georg Wrba at the Art Academy in Dresden and was employed at the state porcelain manufacture until 1913. He was among others, a member of the German Werkbund. He made a name for himself above all with his models of figures and animals and thus had a decisive influence on the Art Nouveau period in Meissen. Model A 277 was created 1910.
