Barr, Flight and Barr bowl Japan fence pattern

About the Item

This is an interesting survivor. A Barr, Flight and Barr porcelain bowl that is painted in underglaze blue as the base for the "Japan" fence pattern, which is illustrated in plate 90, page 98 of Henry Sandon's "Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain". For some reason it did not get to the on glaze decoration stage. It is impressed with the Barr, Flight and Barr mark of the period 1804-13 and Henry Sandon dates the pattern to C1810-15. It measures 172 mm (6.75 inches) in diameter and stands 74 mm (3 inches) high. It is in good condition, but there is a small area inside the bowl where there is a faint discolouration and there are marks to the bottom of the inside where it has been used.
