Chinese Qing Dynasty Green Pink Ginger Jar “Gemberpot”, Rose Family

About the Item

Extraordinary hand-painted Chinese porcelain ginger jar with lid, made during the reign of the Emperor Tongzhi (1862-1875), of the Rose Family type. Rose Family is the name given in Europe to a certain type of Chinese porcelain, which from the 18th century included enamels of this colour in addition to the previous palette of greens, yellows, reds and blues. Today, pieces of porcelain from the Rose Family are highly sought after for their beauty and fine decoration. It comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the Union Trading Co. of Hong Kong: “An investigation was carried out and it was discovered that they were made more than a hundred years ago.” (October 1989). This porcelain piece is shaped like a rounded vase with a lid also made of porcelain and a base or pedestal made of carved and openwork wood. Its ornament, cheerful, serene and colorful, is based on naturalistic elements typical of Chinese iconography, such as branches of different trees and small birds with yellow feathers and red beaks. All of it is hand-painted, with fine and precise strokes. The Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) was the last imperial dynasty of China, ruled by the Manchus, an ethnic group that originated in northeastern China. This dynasty played a fundamental role in the history of China, marking a period of great territorial expansion, cultural exchanges and also internal and external challenges that finally led to the end of the imperial system. For its part, Tongzhi (1862-1875) was the reign title of the Emperor Tongzhi, the tenth emperor of the Qing Dynasty. His reign spans a brief but significant period in Chinese history, marked by attempts at modernisation and the political influence of his mother, the powerful Empress Dowager Cixi. This vase is perfect for decorating any space in the house, on a shelf, console or sideboard. It will bring a unique and original touch to your home! In very good condition with age and use.
