Excellent Meissen Rococo Genre 'Swedish Court Group', by M.V. Acier, Ca 1850

About the Item

Exquisite Rococo love group in magnificent clothing: The noble gallant with a feathered hat and cloak sits on a rock next to a column with a handled vase, at the feet of his hesitant-looking beloved with an elaborate updo wig, who reaches out her hand to him, supported by the column, but looks away in feigned shyness, holding up the rose she had previously received. The group stands on an oval rock base with a gold-enhanced frieze decoration on the side and gold edges. Particularly elaborate, detailed and loving design and staffage. A successful representation of one of the bourgeois themes that had become popular in the course of the 18th century, for example, through the paintings of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805). Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kaendler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. He created a large number of groups in the Watteau style. In 1780 Acier was called to Dresden to become royal Saxon master modeler. Design of the model F 98 around 1778.
