Haviland Limoges Vieux Paris Green Set of Cup and Saucer

About the Item

Vintage set of cup and saucer features Vieux Paris decor in green colorway on thin, semi-translucent porcelain. The pattern consists of cornflowers in blue, purple and gold colors, accentuating the gold laurel wreath medallion, and the green on light green border. The saucer has the gold inner ring decor, balancing the graphic abstract rim design. The cup's handle is adorned with thin gold outlines on top and both sides. “Vieux Paris” collection was created in 1911 for Rouart, a famous tableware boutique located in Paris on Avenue de l'Opéra, which closed its doors in 1966. In 1960s the pattern was found in the Haviland archives and chosen to be reproduced by the manufacturer. The design of this collection is typical of Marie-Antoinette’s preferences, and the service is similar to that of a design created by the Sèvres Manufacturer dating back to the 18th century. The cup and saucer are signed with Haviland Limoges mark with small castle element that was in use from 1967 to 1990. While the collection is current and in production, the marks show that the set is vintage.
