    A beautiful and large late 19th century Berlin K.P.M. Porcelain oval plaque signed Wagner Signed Wagner The portrait of a lovely woman entitled ‘Agesta’, after the artist Angelo Asti. Impressed K.P.M and scepter marks, in the original frame. KPM is an acronym for Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, which translates to “Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin.” The company was founded in 1763 by Frederick II of Prussia, who bought the factory from its previous owner, Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky, in the wake of its bankruptcy. Frederick II greatly admired the factory’s “white gold,” a type of porcelain so fine and translucent that it closely mirrored the high-quality porcelain made in China.     A Very Fine Berlin (KPM) Porcelain Plaque Of A Young Woman, In a Giltwood Frame. The plaque has an impressed KPM sceptre mark to the reverse with impressed number 315_255 and a letter H. A paper label for the studio of 'Franz Xavier Thallmaier, Mucnich'. This fine KPM plaque is superbly painted with a portrait bust of a young woman holding a music scroll and a laurel branch, possibly representing St. Cecilia. The plaque is set in a giltwood frame. Franz Xaver Thallmaier (1890-1910) established in Munich in 1890 one of the most prominent and successful porcelain painting studios in Germany.
