Meissen gorgeous as well as rarest figurine: Birth of Venus, model created by Friedrich Offermann (1898) Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed) First quality Dating: made circa 1900-1905 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Model number R 124 / former's number 8 / painter's number 54 Measures: total height 14.17 inches diameter of base 4.72 inches Modeller: Friedrich Offermann (1859-1913) He was sculptor, having studied at Academy of Dresden. Offermann created some monuments in Dresden, having been active on behalf of Meissen manufactory, too: Some models were purchased by Meissen manufactory in period as from 1890 until 1909. The model R 124 was created in year 1898. Subject: Birth of Venus Venus is a handsome semi-nude as well as long-haired woman's figurine having raised her arms: Her hair is decorated with a garland of flower's blossoms with leaves. The woman is balancing on a base abundantly decorated with Rocaille ornaments as well as with waves (= curling water) of sea. Additionally, a cherub - still floating in air - moves in headfirst manner towards sea.
