About

Measures: Height: 14.4 cm, diameter: 8.3 cm. Based on engravings by Pierce Tempest after Marcellus Laroon the Elder (London 1711). The squire of Alsatia: Overlord or Godfather of a thieves and miscreants area of London, named after Alsace which had been a troublesome area of Europe. Alsatia was in the Whitefriars district of London, near fleet street, and had retained privileges derived from being a converted sanctuary until 1697. It was the haunt of debtors and lawbreakers.
