Early Meissen Rococo Group 'Love and Indulgence' by J.C. Schönheit, Ca 1840
Located in Vienna, AT
Exceptional Meissen porcelain genre group: Young mother seated on a magnificent Louis XVI-style armchair, her left foot set down on a low stool, a boy lying on his stomach on her left thigh, his white shirt slipped up to reveal his bare buttocks, which the mother has probably just struck with the cane in her left hand, to her right a girl in a dress and hat decorated with feathers, clasping her mother's arm so that she can no longer strike the boy. The group is based on an oval pedestal with gold heightened frieze decoration on the sides. Particularly elaborate, detailed design and staffage. This model was based on drawings by Johann Eleazar Zeissig, known as 'Schenau' (1737-1806). Designed by JOHANN CARL SCHÖNHEIT (1730 - 1805) in 1788 started working as an apprentice in the Meissen factory in 1741 and has been in a responsible position since 1768. For more than 20 years, Schönheit was an employee of both J.J. Kändler as well as from M.V. Acier, who entered the Meissen factory in 1762. After Kändler's death in 1775, Schönheit was head of the model department until 1794. Design of the model in 1788 Manufactory: Meissen Germany Dating: made around 1840 Material: white porcelain, glossy finish Technique: handmade porcelain, finest hand painting Dimensions: height: 25,5 cm / 10.03 in width: 18,0 cm / 7.08 in depth: 16,0 cm / 6.29 in Marks: Blue Meissen crossed sword mark Model number: I 66 / former's number 35 / painter Da.. Rare Meissen Rococo Genre Group 'The Happy Parents', by M V Acier, Circa 1860
Located in Vienna, AT
Exceptional Meissen porcelain group of the 19th century: Young mother in elaborate Rococo house dress: Ruched wide long skirt, bodice, fitted frilled coat with hood, the upswept hair covered by a high voluminous bonnet with ruched hem and bows, sitting on a splendid Louis XVI style bench and placing her right foot on a stool, beside her the happy spouse in frock coat, waistcoat over frilled shirt and knee breeches with white stockings, both embracing each other at the back and looking down at the baby wrapped in cloth and lying half naked on a cushion on both their laps, the father guiding his right hand to the mother's chin in an affectionate gesture. Behind them a little boy in a playsuit and hat, holding a bowl and blowing soap bubbles with a tube. The group is based on an oval natural base with sculpted flowers and foliage and gold heightened lateral frieze decoration. Particularly elaborate, detailed design and staffage. Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kändler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. Excellent Meissen Rococo Love Group 'The Test Of Love', by M.V. Acier, Ca 1860
Located in Vienna, AT
Excellent Rococo love group in splendid clothes in front of ornate column monument: the gallant sitting on the pedestal of the pedestal at the feet of his beloved, on his lap a basket full of flowers and a flower garland, a sign of his exuberant love, handing the beloved a bouquet of flowers, the latter plucking off the petals of a flower one after the other to find out whether he really loves her or not - a time-honored game of lovers. The group is characterized by particularly elaborate, detailed and loving design and staffage and is based on oval meadow base with gold heightened lateral frieze decoration and gold borders. A successful representation of one of the bourgeois themes that had become popular in the course of the 18th century, for example, through the paintings of Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805). Designed by MICHAEL VICTOR ACIER (1736 - 1799) Skilled as a sculptor in Paris, he received a call to the porcelain manufactory in Meissen in 1764, and was there, after Kaendler's death in 1775, solely responsible for the artistic interests of the manufactory. Meissen Porcelain Group 'Europe on the Bull', by J.F. Eberlein, circa 1860
Located in Vienna, AT
Excellent large meissen figurine group around 1860: Beautiful, youthful Europe, the primordial mother of the continent, with her hair tied back and adorned with flowers, sits sideways on the strong, white bull, which is actually the transformed father of the god Zeus, who kidnaps the young woman. She is covered only with a large floor-length cloth with golden stars. With her right hand she holds on to one of the animal's horns, with her left hand she grasps its neck, a flower garland adorns the animal's head, two nymphs wrapped in shawls kneel at Europe's feet and offer flowers from a basket. The group is based on an oval base with rocaille decoration heightened in gold. Design: Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1695 - 1749) From 1735 sculptor and modeller at the Meissen porcelain factory. Eberlein worked with Johann Friedrich Eberlein (1706 - 1775) - a modeller at the Meissen manufactory since 1731: Together with J. J. KÄNDLER and Johann Gottlieb Ehder, he created the swan service with more than 2,200 individual items between 1737 and 1742. Eberlein's own creations show classical deities on opulent baroque...

Bow Porcelain Orphaned Coffee Cup, Famille Rose Peony, circa 1755
Located in London, GB
This is a very charming orphaned coffee cup made by the Bow Porcelain factory in about 1755. The cup is decorated in a Chinese "famille rose" peony pattern. This cup would have been part of a large tea service, and the tiny size shows how expensive coffee was in the 18th Century. The Bow Porcelain Factory was one of the first potteries in Britain to make soft paste porcelain, and most probably the very first to use bone ash, which later got perfected by Josiah Spode to what is now the universally used "bone china". Bow was the main competitor of the Chelsea Porcelain Factory, but where Chelsea made very fine slipcast porcelain, Bow made a different soft paste porcelain that tended to be softer and could be pressed into moulds. Bow served a larger public generally at lower prices. The factory was only in operation between 1743 and 1774, after which the tradition got incorporated into some of the later famous potteries such as Worcester and Derby. The cup is unmarked, which is normal for Bow items of this era. Condition report the cup is in excellent condition without any damage or repairs. There are various glazing imperfections, which are quite normal for porcelain of this era. Antique British porcelain...
