Lorraine North 1970s Studio Pottery Group Scarce Mobile Alabama Artist
About the Item
Lorraine North (1931-2014) produced extraordinary Mid-Century Modern scratch decorated studio pottery in the 1970s and 1980s. It is extremely difficult to find examples of her work available. The forms and decoration speak for themselves. The measurement provided is for the larger lidded form. The ornament is local inspired and includes birds, fish, snails and flowers. The Gulf Coast of Alabama and Mississippi hosts a legion of artists and craftspeople with epicenters in Fairhope, Alabama and Ocean Springs, Mississippi, some of international acclaim and others finding recognition only posthumously. It's a great time to start a collection of Alabama, and the related arts and crafts of the Southern Gulf Coast.

- Louisville Pottery Company Daniel Boone Rare Mauve Mid Century Modern KentuckyBy Louisville Pottery CompanyLocated in Mobile, ALThe Louisville Pottery company used a variety of stamps and sold to touristy shops with marks including Cherokee, Great Smokey Mountains, Daniel Boone, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky Hand Made and more. Most of them are small pitchers and vases in traditional forms. But, then there are occasional exceptions and over time we have all learned that major designers including Frederic Hurten Rhead (over at Selden Bybee) were working in the area. Research is ongoing to identify the examples designed and/or influenced by well known artists or simply a great relatively unknown designer or two deserving of recognition for their work. The JB Speed Art Museum cataloged a slightly smaller gloss green example Accession number 2007.10.9 with the Cherokee Pottery...Category
