Signed Mid-Century Scheier Pottery Serving Dish

About the Item

Early and rare hand-thrown ceramic serving dish by mid-century modern masters, Edwin and Mary Scheier. With curved handles and a swirl design, this fabulous hand-crafted pottery stoneware features a circular three inch deep bowl basin, with two protruding uniquely shaped curved handles, organic smooth lines, rich, warm soft blue glaze coloring and sgrafitto spiral turned swirl image to the inside. Signed, inscribed Scheier to the underside. circa 1940s Dimensions: 12.5” W x 10.5” D x 3” H Edwin Scheier (1910–2008) was an American artist, best known for his ceramic works with his wife and artistic partner Mary Scheier (1908–2007). A noted American ceramicist, Mary was well known for her skills in creating thin walled thrown vessels. Combining her products with Edwin's applied designs and custom created glazes gained the couple wide recognition and a large following.
